Goswin Evenyo Dzekoto

Ghana – Mole National Park

More about

I support innovations and initiatives that encourage community and stakeholder participation in the management of Ghana’s largest protected area, the Mole National Park. My role is to encourage and mobilize grassroots organizations to participate in natural resource management. My job is to raise awareness about the park’s importance, as well as to provide a forum for debate and to develop governance institutions to settle conflict and bridge the gap between communities, protected areas, and local governments. Engagements include a number of high-level policy and legislative processes, as well as consultations, all aimed at the long-term development of protected areas. Critically, participation in sustainable green livelihood enhancement schemes to assist communities in the establishment of community-managed eco-tourism ventures, organic product value chains, and other income-generating activities that bridge the gap between conservation, biodiversity, and livelihoods. Climate change mitigation and adaptation challenges are not overlooked in this period. It is vital that fringe communities raise their knowledge, prepare for climate change, and contribute to its mitigation. My primary responsibilities include Climate Smart Agriculture, forest landscape restoration, organic agribusiness enterprises, bushfire management methods, and REDD+.
